South Shields Velo Cycling Club
Established in 2014, South Shields Velo CC has quickly become one of the most popular clubs in the North East. We cater for many different types of cycling including Cycle Cross, Time Trials, Road Racing with several longer rides and Audax’s planned throughout the year.
We also have an eye on the future with our Velo Pups group catering for younger riders with our qualified coaches bringing younger riders through to compete in several competitions.
Elsewhere we encourage members to promote rides and you’ll find many rides available during the week offering various challenges of distance, anticipated average speed and elevations. One thing they all seem to have in common however is the chance of a break somewhere for coffee and cake.

The cyclo cross event Gypsies Green Stadium will see athletes race through sand, jump hurdles and even shoulder their bikes to run up savage inclines on Sunday after the sea front arena has been specially adapted for the Cyclocross North East (CXNE) charity event.
Sunday 22nd of July marked the club’s first circuit event at the Hetton Lyon’s Park venue for 3 separate races; Cat 4 mens, E,1,2,3,4 womens and 2,3,4 mens. The park has undergone a lot of work over the past year to keep it as a race venue.
Today’s 3 man squad: David Nearney, Graeme Wardale and Dan O’Callaghan tackling the Castle Carrock road race. Fast and exciting, just how I like it for 50 miles on rolling lanes. Strong performance again which shows in the final result David 11th & Graeme 13th.
